Our next general meeting is Monday, April 13, 2026 @ 7:00 pm, in the Albany High School library. We will have a parent speaker to talk about volunteerism and service and AHS students will talk about how they found volunteer opportunities and internships.
Parent Ed Speaker: Lucy Chen will talk about “Raising Resilient Leaders Through Service,” supporting teens to engage in volunteering and internships.
Lucy Chen is a speaker, author, and youth advocate dedicated to helping families raise resilient and purpose-driven young adults. She is the award-winning author of Build Resilience: Live, Learn, and Lead and Good Moms DO Cry, a heartfelt book that empowers parents to embrace vulnerability while raising strong children.
A proud mother of three Albany High School graduates, Lucy has been deeply engaged in the local community for many years. She previously served as PTA President at Cornell Elementary School and as Co-Chair of the Albany Asian Pacific Islanders Parent Engagement Group. Through both her leadership and parenting journey, she understands firsthand the academic, social, and emotional pressures today’s teens face. She is currently serving as a board member at Catalyst Youth Network, a nonprofit, where she supports mentorship and leadership development for young people. She has also led two Youth Leadership Programs (YLP) through Toastmasters, equipping middle and high school students with public speaking confidence, communication skills, and self-leadership tools.
Lucy believes volunteerism is not about accumulating hours for college applications—it’s about shaping identity, character, and compassion. Through her work with students and families, she encourages young people to discover purpose through service and become a positive force in their communities.
Please Give to the AHS PTSA Cougar Challenge
We know you have many requests for donations this week. We hope you will consider donating to the Cougar Challenge, the AHS PTSA’s only annual fundraising campaign.
WHY – The PTSA is the primary source of funding for student clubs, senior celebrations, teacher appreciation, and provides grants for teacher activities. Our students benefit from new experiences that help them grow inside and outside the classroom. This year we hope to fund 20 student clubs and 15 teacher grants, but we need your donations.
WHAT – Cougar Challenge is the ONLY fundraiser held by the PTSA and our goal is to raise $7,000 to support our kids and teachers. Any donation helps reach our goal.
WHO – Everyone! Help spread the word through social media, share with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. Check if your employer provides matching donations.
